We asked author Erin Estrada Kelly to tell us about his very favorite book:
Oh, the dreaded question! How could I ever pick a favorite? Let’s see. I love all Dr. Seuss and all Judy Blume. So let’s just get those out of the way now. As far as non-Seussian and non-Blumian, a few of my favorites are Notes from a Liar and Her Dog by Gennifer Choldenko and The Underneath by Kathi Appelt, both of which I’ve already referenced because they’re so awesome. The Underneath is unique, lyrical, beautiful, and amazing.
I also love, love, love Nest by Esther Ehrlich. It’s one of the best middle-grade books I’ve ever read. It’s honest, heartbreaking, and triumphant.
Erin Entrada Kelly’s debut novel Blackbird Fly was released in March 2015 and is a Junior Library Guild Selection, Indies Next Pick, and one of SIBA’s Best Books of the South. She has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and the Philippines Free Press Literary Award for Short Fiction. She lives in Philadelphia.
