FAVE RAVE: Petr Horáček ON ERIC CARLE’S THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR

T435 PL REP FC

We asked Petr Horáček to tell us about his favorite book:

Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar is the most important picture book to me.

Coming from The Czech Republic I didn’t know the book until one of our friends gave it to my daughter when she was born. I didn’t know that it is a classic, and, in fact, at the time I had no idea that one day I would be doing books myself.

I loved the book, thinking: “I have never seen anything like this before.”

Petr Horáček is a Czechoslovakian-born, England-based writer and illustrator of children’s picture books. His next book, The Mouse Who Reached the Sky, will be published in August by Walker Books.
